Top low-key spots in Strasbourg

Strasbourg is a lovely city that can become victim of its own succes, especially around the time of the very, very touristy Christmas Market. This is why we have listed our all-time low-key favourites of Strasbourg in terms bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Whether you feel like a pint of locally brewed beer, a glass of Alsatian wine from the surronding hills, a cappuccino or a slice of flammekueche, you will find a cozy spot to enjoy it here!

For the best flammekueche in town!

Support the environmentally friendly short circuit and order your locally brewed Perle beer (strong in IPA hence very hoppy) while you wait for your Alsatian flammekueche to be baked. Just enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the nicely decorated Binchstub. Soon, your flammekueche will be served the traditional way, on a wooden board. If you want to make the locals angry, just tell them the flammekueche is like a white pizza. This typical dish or snack from Alsace is basically a very thin bread dough topped off with creme fraiche, bacon and onions and baked in a wood-fire oven to the perfect crispiness. Other options include the munster cheese variation – delicious but careful if you have a sensitive nose!

Delicious coffees & good actions!

On top of serving some delicious flat whites, cappuccinos, macchiatos, moccas and espressos in a relaxed atmosphere, Oh my goodness! café will allow you to make an impact for the homeless people of Strasbourg. If you feel generous you can buy an extra coffee that will be served to a homeless person – and especially in the cold continental winter, they are greatly appreciated. Should you have to work, their co-working space has all you need, and to-die-for homemade peacan pies to feed your brain!

In the mood for a cheesy dinner?

Holding its spot in the Guinness book of records for the largest cheesedome in the world, La Cloche à Fromage has been up and running for more than 30 years and only offers the best cheese selection. Raw milk cheeses (fromages au lait cru) mostly from France made by the best craftsmen can be bought in the store or tasted during a cheesy lunch or dinner – surely an unforgettable experience!

For the vibes!

Just slightly South-West of the city centre by the covered bridges, the bustling Abattoir Café is full of locals and students enjoying local beers or homemade infused rums (or a meter of them!) with a flammekueche on the side or any other pick from a broad menu. Many other spirits are also available served either in the cozy interior or outdoor private courtyard where you can join a game of table soccer with locals until late at night while all else is quiet in Strasbourg!

Because a speak-easy bar is always a good idea!

Dress smartly and ring the doorbell… You will be introduced to a dimly lit speak-easy bar where the master of the place will fix unforgettably delicious cocktails! At Code Bar the most original ingredients are subtly mixed with some of the finest liquors. However, if you feel like trying world’s most expensive cognac, you may want to just order it straight up! With over 500 bottles in the house you can be sure to find something to your taste. If you are a bit overwhelmed by the choice, try L’étoile, it’s the best seller, and clearly a real star!
