Colourful and lively are the right words to describe Antigua, the former capital of Guatemala. Because of a few serious earthquakes and volcano eruptions, this seat of power was transferred to Guatemala City in 1776.
Today many buildings have been restored although a good number are still ruined, giving a unique touch to the lovely colonial city. Antigua hosts many language schools, and appears to be the perfect location for outdoor activities thanks to its unique setting among three massive volcanoes, all higher than 3500 metres.
